Most of Europe, as well as Latvia, has been taken over by the Covid-19 pandemic wave for almost two months, followed by countless bans and a state of emergency in the country for human safety. Unfortunately, this pandemic, which has taken over Latvia, is severely affecting and does not completely differentiate all sectors, including sports. Taking into account that the state of emergency in Latvia was extended until 12 May 2020, the fate of the first stages of the season and other security measures were decided at the meeting of the LAF Karting Commission on April 15.
Given that, at present, any gathering involving more than two people or members of the same family is prohibited and that the spread of Covid-19 has not been completely stopped, nor is it clear about the changes in the law that will follow after the state of emergency on May 12 - LAF Karting Commission in the general meeting has decided to cancel the first 2 stages of this season: 22.05. - 23.05. (Madonna) and 12.06. - 13.06. (Kandava), as well as 01.05. E.Skulte Memorial Cup in Kandava. The first, two stages of the Minikāri Latvian Championship are also canceled - 23.04. and 30.05, and the European Minikāri Championship in Switzerland as well.
The next meeting of the LAF Karting Commission will take place on 13.05. and the main issue on its agenda will be - the remaining stages of the season and their organization, based on the regulations adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers, which will follow after the end of the state of emergency on May 12.
Based on the current situation the planned competition in Madona on 09.08., which includes celebrations celebrating the 60th anniversary of Latvian Karting and honoring veterans, also might be affected. If the situation does not improve, it is possible that this celebration will also be postponed to the 2021 season.

It should be noted that in this situation, we must all be patient and work together to overcome this spread of the disease together and to return to a normal pace of life as soon as possible. We invite everyone to stay at home as much as possible, without the need to visit public places, as well as to regularly disinfect and wash their hands. Together and with a shared sense of responsibility, we will be able to defeat this virus – we need to be responsible!
