Two talented Latvian karting drivers Haralds Garkaklis and Martins Lapins at the end of October spent their weekend competing in the Rotax International Open race in Zuera,Spain.
After the final race Haralds (MRG Racing) ranked 11th, but Martins (Energy Team Spain) finished 21st. None of them admitted in their goal for the race was achieved, but Martins and Haralds said that this race was a great practice and helped better prepare for the Rotax Grand Finals race that’s going to take place at the amazing track of Kartódromo Internacional Lucas Guerrero Chiva in Valencia, Spain on 25th - 29th November.
Both guys stared the race slow at practice runs, but showed better results after qualifying practice rounds. Haralds raced to the 9th place but Martins, because of some technical issues, placed 19th. After three qualifying heats Haralds ranked 6th giving him the chance to fight for a higher place at the prefinal race. At some point in the prefinal race he managed to race to the 3rd place, however, because of some technical problems, finished the same place as he had started. Haralds started the final race from the 6th position. After some minor clashes he dropped to the 10th place. As Haralds mentioned, during the last lap there was a tough fight in a crowd with other kart racers, so he placed 11th in photo finish. Martins on the other hand, started the prefinal race from the 17th position. Unfortunately after the start of that race he had a crash which threw him more than half a lap behind his opponents. At the end of the prefinal race he placed 30th but finished the final race 21st.
The Rotax Grad Finals Race is close so we’re wishing Haralds and Martins good luck and hoping they show their best performance.
We’re going to be cheering them up live but you can follow their results here.
