This year, the traditional children's/youth's and historic karting competitions took place on 28-29 in June, Madona. 53 drivers came to the race, 18 of them in the children and youth categories and 25 in the historic kart categories, as well as 10 Tillotson T4 class drivers.
The "Indian's Trophy" was also held the day before, which is basically a race for mechanics with rental karts. This race was a real test for both the equipment and the participants, because on Friday the thermometer exceeded 35 degrees Celsius. It was not only the equipment, but also the emotions of the participants was heated up extreemly. Mareks Štolcermanis almost managed to defend his title, who had a small collision with Mārtiņš Steinerts during the race, as a result of which both lost several positions. Madona's aspirant Mārtiņš Janovskis took advantage of this situation and safely get it to victory. The other places on the podium were shared by the previously mentioned Mareks Štolcermanis and Mārtiņš Steinerts. It should be noted that both were on the podium last year as well.
Tillotson T4 class drivers continue to fight for the opportunity to participate in the world tour. The equipment is practically equal for all participants, it's all about driving skill. It is not easy to win, but in the race full of overtaking and accidents, Daniels Bērziņš turned out to be the sfastest, narrowly overtaking Dāvis Zalmans. The third spot of the podium step was reserved for a lady - Elizabete Šulce. It should also be added here that the award-winning trio would have looked different if Kristofer Caune had not overtaken in the yellow flag zone, and Kiril Dmitriev had not made a mistake and violated the order of the start procedure, for which the two aspirants were penalized with a penalty of five and three seconds, respectively.
In the historical classes, awards were divided into a total of 6 categories. In the largest class, Retro, where 10 karts from the 70s/80s/90s entered the race, Māris Aizsils (Mārupe) won, leaving behind Jēkabs Malmanis (Sigulda) and Sander Pajumets, a guest from Estonia. Among the participants is Andris Štāls, former Latvian formula driver and owner of a large collection of historical karts, who also restored all the karts himself.
In other historical categories, the following winners: Olegs Vlasovs (Rēzekne) won in Retro-Sport class, Valdis Brutāns (Venspils) won in M125 class, Estonian Juhan Ansper was the fastest in CZ125.
Dainis Ozoliņš (Madona) was the winner in the historic international class competition Formula-A, with the mayor of Madona, Agris Lungevičs, on the podium. On the other hand, in the Formula-C standings, guest from Estonia Ular Jeblakov remained unbeaten, Estonian Urmas Pajumets was in second place and Oskars Zeila (Sigulda) was third.
Before the award ceremony, Urmas Pajumets made a small demonstration ride with his historic kart Estonia K5 with Kovrovec engine. He won the Grand Prix with this kart at the 2023 historical karting festival in Italy, Jesolo “Coppa dei Campioni”. Then everyone present had a unique opportunity to watch this rare specimen in action - the noise was profound...
In the children's and youth categories, not only beautiful, big cups were won, but also valuable prizes - the race winners get a brand new Rotax karting engine.
In all three classes, the battles were very intense in absolutely all races. You could even say that the winner was difficult to predict. How hot it was is also shown by the fact that in the Micro class even after the finish flag of the Superfinal, it was not clear who the winner was - the final classification of the race was decided at the table of the race commissioner and the chief referee. Never the less, a well-deserved victory was won by Emilis Jouzaitis (Lithuania), he deserved a victory no less, but this time he has to settle for the second place, Kārlis Bernsons. The third place was won by Martins Lapiņš in the last laps.
No less exciting fights in the Mini class. The first three were generally very similar in strength. Although Juris Plūksna looked a little more confident, a little more experienced, a little faster, a little more ready to climb the top step of the podium, who also managed to win the most important race of the day by a few seconds in the 26-lap race, ahead of Rodrigo Kākera and Mikkel Grantiņš.
In the Junior classification, more exciting battles took place immediately behind the first three, where Timurs Pecerica, Gabriales Moisejs and Lithuanian Aloyzas Čekavičius tried to find out the distribution of places until the last meters of the race. At the front, Toms Strēle won a rather convincing victory, at the finish he was just under 3 seconds ahead of the second place, but there was no doubt for a moment that any of the competitors could threaten Tom's position. Second place was won by Adrians Tions, leaving teammate Karlis Kirikovs behind.
That was the children's/youth's and historical karting competition in Madona this season.
The organizers express their huge gratitude to all participants and supporters!
See you next year!
