While the karting season in Latvia has ended and it's time to look back on the achievements of our karting gladiators, meanwhile, for some aspirants, the season is far from over - the most important matches of the season are ahead: the FIA Karting World Championship and the Rotax Max Grand Finals.
Let's start with the most important news. On October 8, at the Italian kart track in Franciacorta, the world champions in the OK class will be determined, where Tomass Stolcermanis is one of the favorites. Several other drivers from the Baltic countries also take part in the race. In addition, the Estonian Mark Dubnitski showed the fastest lap time in the OK qualification. He has had a rather quiet season this season, but it looks like he managed to shoot right in the most important matches of the season. Tomas is classified as ninth in the qualification and assigned to group B. Variable success in the first heats. In the first heat after a contact with competitor R. Lammers, he lost a few positions and finished in sixth position. Tomass managed to win on the second heat. The third heat turned out to be very unsuccessful - after starting from the outside, several positions were lost, but Thomas' speed was very good and he managed to fight back to the sixth position, but for some incident on the track, Tomass were penalysed, which dropped Thomas to the 13th position. The race continues with a next heats on Saturday and ending on Sunday with the final at 17.00 Latvian time.
You can follow the race in more detail here.
Continuing the FIA Karting theme, it should be added that in the meantime, our drivers have completed other international FIA Karting race series. In the FIA Academy race, Juris Rolands Sprude is classified in 42nd position. Incomparable experience was gained in the competition, which will definitely help the young driver to build a successful karting career in the future. Edgars Vilcans formed the company for Tomass Stolcermanis in the world championship in the KZ2 class, where he took the 68th position (in the competition of 125 participants). This year, Tomass himself "shained" in the European Championship in the OK class, fourth place, in the KZ2 class, moreover, in his debut year, bronze. Seventh place in the World Championship in the KZ2 class and many beautiful victories in various international series, both in the OK and KZ2 classes. We have our fingers crossed for Tomass in the world championship in the OK class.
In Latvian karting, the world mainly revolves around Rotax, although Tomas, Edgars and Juris Rolands try to balance this situation with their starts in the FIA Karting series, but still the main series in Latvia is Rotax, where at the end of the season the best from all over the world meet in the Grand Finals. This year, this prestigious race will take place at the beginning of December at the Bahrain kart track. As usual in recent years, Latvia will be represented in the race by a very numerous and strong team. The right to participate in the Grand Finals has been won by Patriks Noels Locmelis, who has already been on the podium of the Grand Finals before, Tomass Birstins, Martins Janovskis, Toms Strele, Adrians Tions, Henrijs Grube, who has been very close to the podium in the Grand Final race several times, Karlis Kirikovs. In recent years, our drivers have done very well in these races, last year Kristaps Gasparovics won in the DD2 Masters class, the year before Tomas Stolcermanis was unbeatable in the Junior class. We wish good luck to our drivers in a distant land.
